Paul Scholes explained why Paul Pogba has been a failure at Manchester United, citing his repeated mistakes as the main reason for the downfall.

Manchester United fans truly believed Paul Pogba was their future when the club decided to bring back the midfielder by paying a club-record sum in 2016. The Frenchman had departed the club for Juventus on a free transfer in 2018, with the Old Lady being able to cash in after a few great seasons in Turin.

Despite a solid start to his second stint at Manchester United, the midfielder has seen his form drop year on year, and now it has come to a very sorry state. With the whole team underperforming this season, fans have targeted individuals, and Pogba has been one of them.

After being jeered at by his supporters during the win over Norwich City, Ralf Rangnick lamented over the fans’ behaviour, stating there’s no point singling out individual stars. In the next game against Liverpool, the Frenchman only lasted eight minutes on the pitch, which could have been the last time he appeared in a Manchester United shirt.

Pogba is likely to leave on a free transfer when his contract with the club ends. PSG have reportedly tabled an offer for the French midfielder, while Barcelona, Real Madrid are also contenders to sign him.

Looking back at his time at Manchester United, the midfielder could be regarded as one of the worst signings in the last decade, and Paul Scholes believes he has been a failure. Scholes claimed that Pogba was a massive failure at the club, insisting the midfielder’s knack to repeat mistakes may have resulted in his decline in form and relationship with fans.

“I was there when he was a kid, and this lad has got absolutely everything you’d want in a midfield player,” Scholes told talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News). “His physique, he can run, I just don’t think he’s ever learned as a footballer. He constantly seems to make the same mistakes over and over again.

“It’s disappointing, it looks like he’s going to leave, but I think he will go somewhere, a manager will get a grip on him and I think he’ll do really well as he did at Juventus. I just think for some reason, at Manchester United, it hasn’t worked out, and it’s been a big disappointment because we see what he does with France, we saw what he did with Juventus, it’s been a big disappointment, of course, it has.

“People probably see him the wrong way, he’s a nice lad. He’s a lad I always found that wanted to work, wanted to learn, and for some reason, it just hasn’t worked out.

“I hope he goes on and does really well, but for the lad himself I think it’s probably time to move on and find a manager that he really believes in more than anything, a manager that believes in him, and we all know he’s got the talent and ability to be a world class footballer.”

Pogba may not play again this season, and there has been no news regarding Manchester United’s willingness to offer him a new deal in recent weeks. The midfielder will be a high-profile free agent in the summer window, with plenty of sides set to scramble for his signature.
