Paddy Kenny has tipped Newcastle United to move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi before the January transfer window closes.

There could be significant movement in the football transfer market in the hours leading up to the January window deadline. The window shuts on 31st January, and there could be several players completing their transfers in the next two days after Liverpool complete the Luis Diaz deal.

Diaz is on the verge of joining Liverpool, and the transfer could be finalised soon. Due to the Colombian’s arrival, Jurgen Klopp could sanction the departures of at least two of his attacking players, with Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino facing the axe before the window closes.

Origi, in particular, has plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, including Burnley and Newcastle United. The Belgian has only six months left on his current contract, and Liverpool risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer. As things stand, the Reds could get a transfer fee for the striker if they allow his departure this month.

Newcastle are making a late dash to bring in a Premier League-calibre striker despite signing Chris Wood earlier this month. They have been heavily linked with Eddie Nketiah in the last few days, but they might still swoop in for Origi if he becomes available.

The Liverpool forward has plenty of experience in the Premier League. The Belgian could be a more formidable option than Nketiah, who also has six months left in his deal with Arsenal. As things stand, both forwards could move clubs in the next few days, with Newcastle United very much at the centre of the activity.

Paddy Kenny feels Newcastle United will make a move for Origi, telling Football Insider that the Liverpool forward’s qualities will help Eddie Howe’s side. He also suggested the imminent arrival of Diaz could help the Reds make a quick decision on the Belgian’s future.

Kenny said, “Newcastle could go back in for Origi now. I think they will; I think there was a bit of interest earlier in the window. I would expect he’s available now with Diaz coming in. Liverpool may as well cash in. He has done a job every time he has been given a chance by Liverpool. He’s got the experience and he gives Newcastle a much better option in attack. That’s a deal I can see happening.”

With only two more days left for the January transfer window to slam shut, Newcastle United will need to make a move quickly if Origi becomes their key target. But the Magpies will also hope that Liverpool can finalise the Luis Diaz deal swiftly.
