Darren Bent has urged Mohamed Salah to turn down any advances from Barcelona and Real Madrid in favour of staying put at Liverpool.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as quoted by Tribal Football, Darren Bent has had his say on the rumours linking Mohamed Salah with Barcelona and Real Madrid. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has asserted that Salah must stay put at Liverpool, knocking back any approach from the two La Liga heavyweights.

Salah is in the form of his life, having started the season in marvellous fashion. The 29-year-old has a staggering record of 15 goals and six assists in just 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Such an electric start to the season has prompted many to back him to win the coveted Ballon d’Or ahead of galactic players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski. Most recently, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has claimed that Salah is not just world-class but “out-of-this-world class” at the moment.

So, with Salah playing the best football of his career, his future at Liverpool should not really be in question. Instead, with a little over 18 months left on his current deal, uncertainty over his future has been mounting, even though Salah has said that he is open to staying at Anfield till he retires.

Now, Darren Bent has had his say on Salah’s situation while appearing on a segment on talkSPORT (h/t Tribal Football). In particular, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker has asserted that Salah should stay put at Liverpool instead of joining Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Bent said, “Do you know what he has on his side as well? There aren’t too many places he can go. You look at Barcelona or Real Madrid; neither of them are in any sort of financial state. I know they (Real Madrid) bid something crazy for Kylian Mbappe, but that looks like who they are set on getting. They are in a rebuild.”

“When you talk about the biggest clubs in the world right now, in terms of who could go on and win the Champions League, I think of Liverpool, Chelsea, City, PSG, Bayern. If Barcelona or Real Madrid came in for me right now and I’m at Liverpool, I would stay where I am.”

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have recently been linked with Salah in recent weeks. However, with the player himself insisting that leaving Liverpool is an unthinkable prospect for him, it might only be a matter of when than if when it comes to his contract renewal.
