Mikael Silvestre has urged Manchester United to solve the Paul Pogba situation, harbouring hopes the midfielder will sign a new deal at the club.

Manchester United have created an atmosphere of optimism around the club after a successful transfer window. The Premier League giants recruited notable names such as Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and facilitated a surprise return for Cristiano Ronaldo back to the side.

Having started the season in explosive style, Manchester United have collected seven points from their opening three games to set the ball rolling on a possible title challenge. However, one big issue to be resolved involves the future of star midfielder Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman is in the last year of his deal, with both parties yet to find a solution. Time is running out for Manchester United as Pogba could sign a pre-contract agreement with any interested foreign clubs in January. Moreover, there’s no shortage of interest in the midfielder, with Real Madrid leading the pack.

It is not to say Pogba has shut out the possibility of remaining at Old Trafford, but the case might be related to his unhappiness at the club for several years now. However, former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre harbours hopes of the club re-signing the midfielder on new terms and resolve the situation once and for all.

Silvestre told Tribal Football of the midfielder’s importance to the club and hoped Manchester United’s direction and ambition might convince Pogba to stay put.

The ex-Arsenal ace said, “I’m a Manchester United and Paul Pogba fan; I would like to see him extend his stay with the club and help the club win trophies again. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to get him to sign a new contract; it’s possible that he will sign at some point. I believe it would benefit not only the squad but the club as well because it would be a great boost.”

“It shows the club is going in the right direction by keeping hold of someone like Paul Pogba. He’s an important player to this team; he has qualities different to any other player in the squad, which can be the difference. Sometimes he can lack consistency, but he’s a huge player for Manchester United, and hopefully he will sign a new contract.”
