Micah Richards has claimed Liverpool might have the upper hand in the title race after Manchester City’s loss to Tottenham.

The Premier League continues to create drama, and the events on Saturday opened up a title race that seemed dead before the matchday began. Manchester City were expected to take three points against a Tottenham side who had lost three games in a row previously.

However, Tottenham shocked the Etihad as they clinched three points against the champions, courtesy of an injury-time Harry Kane winner. Kane is the same player Pep Guardiola chased all summer, and now the England skipper has made it possible for Liverpool to re-enter into the title conversation.

The Merseysiders secured three points against Norwich City despite going behind. Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and new arrival Luis Diaz scored at Anfield, as they kept the pressure over league leaders Manchester City. Despite Manchester City’s shock loss, Liverpool remain six points adrift of the leaders with a game in hand.

If Jurgen Klopp’s men are to win that extra game and then triumph at the Etihad, they could potentially be level on points with Guardiola’s side. For such a scenario to transpire, the Reds will have to keep a clean record and rack up at least as many points as Manchester City along the way.

Ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards thinks Liverpool have a favourable chance to tilt the title race in their favour and possibly pip Pep Guardiola’s side in the coming weeks. His comments on the situation appeared on Liverpool Echo via Sky Sports, as the former City star spoke after the game while on punditry duties.

He said, “It’s in Liverpool’s favour now if they come here and win the game and do the rest that they need to do in the Premier League. I said before the game don’t be complacent. It wasn’t just about City, Spurs were excellent today but I just thought City knew that Spurs were going to drop deep and come on the counter-attack and played into their hands.”

Manchester City will host Liverpool on April 9 at the Etihad, and the game is already being touted as the title decider. However, compared to Guardiola’s side, Liverpool have considerably difficult outings yet to come, with Klopp’s men yet to face Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham in their run-in.
