Mason Mount has named his pick of players for the Ballon d’Or accolade, with teammates N’Golo Kante and Jorginho featuring.

The race to win the Ballon d’Or is truly on, with some of the most renowned stars across the world of football fighting for the individual prize. Some of those names include Jorginho, Robert Lewandowski, N’Golo Kante, Lionel Messi, among others.

Mohamed Salah was tipped to win the big prize when the 30-man nominations were announced. The Egyptian has form on his side leading up to the votes, with the hat-trick at Old Trafford against Manchester United still fresh in everyone’s minds. However, Liverpool’s lack of trophies last season may force many to overlook him for the grand prize.

Jorginho also remains one of the favourites to win the accolade, after a brilliant season winning the Champions League with Chelsea and then UEFA Euro 2020 with Italy in the summer. The Chelsea midfielder is firmly in the hunt with Lionel Messi, who is primed to win after winning the Copa America with Argentina.

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has also forced his way into the reckoning to win the award after helping the Blues win the Champions League, although there might be others who are ahead of him in the order.

Jorginho and Kante’s teammate, Mason Mount has picked his favourites to win the Ballon d’Or. Speaking to L’Equipe, as quoted by Transfer Market Web, the Chelsea talisman named teammates Jorginho and Kante among his top picks due to the Chelsea connection and mentioned Salah and Lewandowski.

Mount said, “It’s a difficult question; I’m happy that I don’t have the responsibility to decide on these kinds of things. There are a lot of players who can claim it. Like (Robert) Lewandowski, given the number of goals he has scored and the way he weighs in matches. Recently, Mohamed Salah has also been unplayable.”

“And obviously, as a Chelsea player, I’m going to name my club teammates like Jorgi (Jorginho), who won the Euro and the Champions League, as well as NG (N’Golo Kanté), who is quite simply the ‘one of the best players in the world.”

Only time will tell who ends up winning the coveted prize. For now, Mount has named some of the obvious favourites to win Ballon d’Or, and it will be interesting to see who prevails in the end.
