Manchester United have been urged to seal the deal to sign Erik ten Hag by former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

Manchester United have started their talks with Erik ten Hag over a potential move to Old Trafford in the summer. The Ajax manager is one of the front-runners in the club’s pursuit of finding a replacement for Ralf Rangnick, who is set to take up a consultancy role in the Man United hierarchy from next season.

It has been made no secret that Manchester United prefer ten Hag due to his immense success at Ajax. His candidacy for the job at Old Trafford has been boosted further by Paris Saint-Germain’s recent struggles and their Champions League elimination under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the deal is far from done, which could be a reason for concern, as Manchester United are not the only club interested in hiring ten Hag next season. Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has recently interacted with Football Insider, urging Manchester United to get the deal over the line as soon as possible and utilise their relationship with Edwin van der Sar.

“This should have been done months ago, just after Solskjaer left. The whole interim manager thing was just never going to work,” he told Football Insider.

Kenny, who had featured in over 300 competitive matches for Sheffield United during his playing days, believes Manchester United can take advantage of their relationship with van der Sar, who is currently serving as the chief executive at Ajax.

“I don’t see a plan at Man United; that’s a big problem that has to change in the summer. If it is going to be Ten Hag, you could see it getting done quite easily. Van Der Sar is at Ajax, and I’m sure he would do Man United a favoured if Ten Hag wasn’t to leave. Whatever happens, they need to get him in as soon as the season is over.”

“We can’t be a month away from next season and they are still looking for a new manager. So, it sounds promising, this is all good progress and you just hope they get someone announced soon,” he added.

While the interest from Manchester United can be deemed as one of the reasons, many believe Erik ten Hag could leave Ajax in the summer mainly because of the departure of Marc Overmars. The duo had gelled really well at Ajax, but with the two falling apart, ten Hag could be compelled to find a new challenge in the new season.
