Andy Townsend has urged Manchester United to sign high-flying English winger Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United in the summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Andy Townsend has claimed that Manchester United should sign West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The English ace has been sensational for David Moyes’ side since he joined the club from Hull City in 2020. He has since made 103 appearances for the Irons, scoring 27 goals and assisting 23 more. It is fair to say that he has proven his calibre as a top-flight player.

There is only so much that West Ham can offer Bowen, and a move to a bigger club could be on the cards. Townsend believes that Bowen’s performances will not go unnoticed, and he might be privy to transfer offers in the coming summer.

He goes on to add that his versatility makes him an attractive proposition. One of the clubs that could do with a player of the 25-year-old’s abilities is Manchester United, according to former Chelsea midfielder turned broadcaster and pundit, Townsend.

Speaking to Andy Goldstein, Townsend said: “Jarrod Bowen has been great. He’s been so good lately. I tell you what, I bet you West Ham get a bid or two for him in the summer, I bet they do. Would you have him [at Manchester United]? Like a shot you should be saying. He can play anywhere. I’ve seen him play up the middle for West Ham, on one side. For your lot, he’d get in your team wherever he likes!”

The Red Devils have underperformed in recent years and are set to embark upon a new journey under Erik ten Hag. Jadon Sancho, last summer’s marquee signing, has failed to take off at Old Trafford and Bowen could add more spark to the attack.

Townsend believes Bowen can be the solution to the club’s woes on the right-wing. Given his track record this season, it is fair to say that the 58-year-old’s thoughts have some merit. “I would play him off the right-hand side,” he said.

Manchester United’s squad is best described as a cornucopia of overpaid stars that has massively underachieved. A revamp is needed, and the club must bring in the right players this summer.

Bowen is not just a proven Premier League talent but at 25 also has the best years of his career ahead of him. He has also attracted attention from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the past. Whether Manchester United will heed Townsend’s advice and move for Bowen remains to be seen.

Not sure Andy Townsend knows his a from his e – but so we’re clear, Bowen is going nowhere. Man Utd would only represent a sideways move for the boy, in any case, so what interest would he have in getting caught up in the toxic mess at OT anyway? Of more concern is the relentless tapping up of Bowen by Liverpool. They’ve been trying to unsettle him for over a year, and It’s surely time the FA did something about it.
