Paddy Kenny believes John McGinn will be a good addition to Manchester United, claiming the midfielder can take his game to the next level at Old Trafford.

John McGinn remains one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League. Some may think it’s because he plays for Aston Villa and has come through different football levels rising from the ranks of Scottish football to the Championship to the Premier League.

However, the midfielder, with consistent performances for Aston Villa, has proved he could be a great option for some of the biggest sides in the division. Manchester United have been recently linked with a move, as their new manager, Ralf Rangnick looks to add the right players to his squad.

The German tactician will be taking over the reins until the end of the season. Following that, he will be part of the club as a consultant for the next two years and he is keen to plan out transfers and strategies and bring in players who will suit the club in the long term.

Like McGinn, Manchester United are also tipped to sign Amadou Haidara from RB Leipzig, Rangnick’s former club. However, the Aston Villa man seems like a more astute target, given his proven pedigree in the Premier League and his ability to play well in high-pressure games.

Paddy Kenny certainly agrees with the idea of McGinn playing for Manchester United. He told Football Insider that the Aston Villa man could take his game to the next level with a move to Rangnick’s side, suggesting the Scotsman would still be a better signing than many other high-profile signings the club made in recent years.

Kenny said, “I don’t see why McGinn wouldn’t do well at Man United. He’s a brilliant player, and he has done so well for Aston Villa. He’s shown his quality. It would be interesting to see if this does happen. I can see him at United now. No disrespect to Villa, but I would like to see McGinn play with better players.

“That would bring more out of him. Some fans might complain that it’s not a glamourous signing or something like that. If you look at some of the big players Man United have signed, it doesn’t always work out. McGinn is proven in the Premier League and on the international stage, there is no risk there.”

Manchester United could be needing a new midfielder in the summer amid question marks over the future of both Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek. Whether they turn to McGinn to reinforce their squad or look elsewhere remains to be seen.
