Manchester United star Luke Shaw has hinted at being unhappy at Old Trafford following his heroics for England.

As quoted by Manchester Evening News, Luke Shaw has hinted at being unhappy at Manchester United following his goalscoring exploits for England.

The Three Lions’ full-back has endured a difficult season with the Red Devils and has been a shadow of the player who made the PFA Team of the Year last season. The 26-year-old was on target during the international break for England as he drew his team level against Switzerland with Gareth Southgate’s side going on to win 2-1.

The 26-year-old has failed to find the back of the net at Old Trafford and has been one of the club’s poorest performing players this season. And, he has now hinted that life at the Theatre of Dreams might not be ideal.

Shaw admitted that the atmosphere and enjoyment in the England squad is the reason for his excellent performances at the international level. These pointed comments could be seen as a jab at life in the Manchester United camp.

“I think when I come here [to England], for me it’s about enjoyment, playing games with a smile on my face and enjoying it. I feel like here, when I come here I always do that, we all love playing for our country,” he said.

Shaw admitted that he is very happy to don his nation’s jersey. His performances in white certainly reflect that. He added that while he enjoyed representing Manchester United, he does not appear to enjoy featuring for the club of late. “I’m not saying I don’t at United but especially here, the way things are, I feel wanted, I enjoy my football. The big part of football is enjoyment,” he clarified.

It is not easy to enjoy one’s game when the team is not doing well. Manchester United have been poor this season, and Shaw admitted that it is necessary for the players to up their game. Unless results pick up, disappointment appears to be the game’s name at Old Trafford.

“It’s hard to enjoy it when we’re losing and we’re not playing well at club level, we have to face that, this season it’s not been good enough at all it’s hard to enjoy,” he added.

While Shaw can blame the atmosphere for his lack of enjoyment, there appears to be little from his end to contribute to bettering the situation. Actions speak louder than words, and until he can back it up with performances on the field, there is little substance behind Shaw’s statements.
