Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard believes Liverpool will not hesitate to spend big on a specific player, with Jude Bellingham in the spotlight.

It’s quite baffling how, in the summer of 2020, top English clubs missed out on generational talent Jude Bellingham as Borussia Dortmund nicked him for a modest fee. After a year of senior football in Germany, the midfielder is already worth more than a reported €100 million, with the Premier League side now showing an interest.

Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are linked with a sensational move for the dynamic teenager, as Dortmund seem destined to make a hefty profit on their investment. Liverpool are understood to be leading the race for the former Birmingham City star, as they are tipped to spend big on the England international.

As Liverpool sit in a position of strength in the Premier League table, they received some criticism for their lack of spending during the summer. Ibrahima Konate was the only player they signed, as Jurgen Klopp retained faith in his squad, a decision that has paid off so far.

Most of the players signed by the club since Klopp’s arrival have played important roles in recent successes, as only a handful of those signings underperformed. During this period, Liverpool have spent big on specific players, such as Virgil van Dijk and Allison Becker, as both stars proving their worth since joining.

Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard believes that Liverpool will spend big again next summer seeing another worthy player in Bellingham. Hatchard’s comments appeared on the Express via TalkSport, as he predicted the Merseysiders to make a big move for the Dortmund midfielder.

Hatchard said, “I think what Liverpool have shown they’ll do is spend big money on transfers on what they feel are transformational signings. They brought in Alisson, and that’s been transformational because he’s a top-class goalkeeper.

“You only have to look at how they went out to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago when he wasn’t there to show how important that is. That made a massive difference. We know about Van Dijk and what a transformational signing that’s been.”

“I think in terms of the football club going forward, he [Bellingham] would be in a similar bracket. Van Dijk was a bit more proven and Alisson was too but in terms of potential and what he [Bellingham] would bring to the club, I think a massive outlay would be fine.”

Liverpool will certainly have competition from the other big English clubs if Bellingham becomes available. If the midfielder prefers to join the Merseysiders, the transfer might prove easy, but the Reds could be ousted if the whole thing materialises into a transfer battle.
