Noel Whelan has tipped Liverpool to make a move for Bukayo Saka as Jurgen Klopp has identified the Arsenal youngster as a target to refresh his attack.
Liverpool still have one of the most lethal frontlines in world football, with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Diogo Jota performing admirably this season. Their big concern would be to refresh and correctly replace their ageing forwards except for the Portuguese.
Jurgen Klopp is already thinking of many potential options to be signed next summer and beyond. There have been names such as Jarrod Bowen, Ismaila Sarr, and Raphinha mentioned before, but the latest one is a pretty interesting choice in Bukayo Saka.
Klopp is reportedly keen on Saka as he wants to bring the Arsenal youngster as a long-term replacement in the forward line. This season, the England international has been in tremendous form, scoring six goals and providing four assists in the Premier League.
He still has a contract until 2024, and Arsenal might sit down by the end of the season or even before to discuss a new deal. Saka is considered as a crucial part of Mikel Arteta’s side, and the north London club are not expected to sell him to their rivals.
Yet, Noel Whelan, taking a cue from journalist Ian McGarry’s words from the Transfer Window Podcast, has backed Liverpool to make a move for the youngster. McGarry claimed Saka might be ‘very interested in a move to Merseyside, and Whelan claimed on Football Insider, that he certainly sees the movement materialising.
Whelan said. “Absolutely, I can see him at Liverpool. I don’t think it was that long ago that they were trying to tempt him over to Anfield when he was running out of contract at Arsenal. We have seen the development in Saka – he’s now one of the best wingers in the Premier League.
“The way he gets on the ball, the way he dictates a game, he’s very much a Liverpool style player. However, it seems to be that Mikel Arteta is building something really quite special at Arsenal right now. I’m sure the club won’t want to let him go for any money and show their strength in the market. They’ll want to show they’re not a selling club and really continue with this rebuild.”
Saka will be back in action later this week as Arsenal take on Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield. It will give Klopp & co. another chance to take a closer look at the England international.
