Brazilian midfielder Fabinho is confident that Liverpool will be right among the top contenders in the Premier League title race this season.

As quoted by the Mirror, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has issued a warning to their rivals that Jurgen Klopp’s team will be right at the top in the race for the title, despite the Reds being inactive in the transfer market.

Indeed, after signing Ibrahima Konate very early in the summer, things have quietened down to a large extent. A move for Saul Niguez had been mooted for a while but no progress has been made on that front.

In contrast, their rivals, Manchester City have bagged a big fish in Jack Grealish and are pushing to sign Harry Kane as well. Chelsea, meanwhile, are closing in on the blockbuster signing of Romelu Lukaku while Manchester United have also brought in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, with the latter expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Fabinho, however, is undeterred by all of that, as he insists that this Liverpool squad is more than capable of beating any side. The Brazilian highlighted the success that the Reds had tasted prior to the disappointing last season, adding that neither he nor his team paid attention to what the others are doing.

“This Liverpool squad has already won the Premier League, the Champions League, some important trophies. We have already shown what we are capable of. We don’t pay attention to the other teams. City are the Premier League champions and Chelsea the Champions League champions, and the English teams are always strong and will always fight for trophies. This year won’t be different.

“We will be strong and they will be strong as well. Hopefully we will be a bit stronger. We don’t pay too much attention to the other teams, we just focus on us and working hard to be in the best way as possible,” the Brazilian international said.

Fabinho has been a crucial part of the Reds’ setup since arriving from AS Monaco back in 2018. The Brazilian showed his utility to the side last season when playing at centre-back during an injury crisis. A key asset, he was handed a new contract by the Merseyside giants earlier this summer.

While he is right in being confident about Liverpool’s prospects, at the same time, the Reds need to step up on their transfer activity, if they do not wish to be left behind. Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure has left a huge void that needs to be filled while another forward would be a wise investment as well, considering Roberto Firmino’s misfiring form.
