Kevin Phillips firmly believes that Liverpool star Andy Robertson is the world’s best left-back after overcoming injury issues this term.

Over the years, Andy Robertson has become one of Liverpool’s key stars under Jurgen Klopp. The left-back, deployed in a rampant attacking role under the German manager, has proved effective, often a regular assist-giver from the left side.

He tends to symbolise Klopp’s style of play by making rampant runs into the box and making life difficult for opposition defenders. Robertson is known for his healthy competition with fellow full-back partner Trent Alexander-Arnold, as both tend to compete for being the highest assist provider.

After starting all of Liverpool’s 38 league games last season, in which he produced a return of one goal and seven assists, Robertson has already missed some matches due to fitness problems this term.

However, having put his injury issues in the rearview, Robertson has returned to the side and has been performing at his very best. He was instrumental in Liverpool’s win over city rivals Everton, laying down two assists for his teammates. He now has four assists in ten league games this season. The full-back is again expected to play an important role as the Reds challenge on multiple fronts.

As a highlight over his improvement, some posts surfaced on social media sites that showed the defender’s monstrous statistics against Everton. Looking at those staggering numbers, one can say Robertson is truly back to his best.

And former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips believes the same as he stated that Robertson answered his critics with that performance against Everton. He told Football Insider the Liverpool star was the best left-back in the world on current form.

Phillips said, “He’s the best in the world. I will back him all the way – he’s a top, top player. Players like him don’t lay down; they come back stronger from injuries and after criticism. His attitude is superb.

“He might well be the best left-back in world football at the moment. He gives Liverpool everything down that side, from assists to crucial tackles. It’s always nice to ram great performances down the critics’ throats and prove them wrong.”
