Kevin Campbell wants Arsenal to use the Joe Willock money to fund a move for Houssem Aouar, which he considers as good business.

Arsenal’s pursuit of an attacking midfielder is still ongoing, and fans have been left perplexed who the incoming player might be. In the recent Mind Series, where the Gunners faced off against London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham, it was evident the club still lacked the creative output, and a move for a playmaker is expected.

Houssem Aouar has been one of the club’s long-term targets, as the Gunners came close to signing him last summer. However, back then his price tag was the problem, which has since been slashed considerably. The Lyon playmaker is reportedly available for around £25 million this summer, and Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to move for him.

However, in this particular window, Arsenal not have been so keen on Aouar, instead focusing their attempts on other stars. Martin Odegaard was their primary target until he decided to stay put at Real Madrid. Apart from Aouar, the other more viable targets are Bernardo Silva and James Maddison.

The Leicester City and Manchester City attacking midfielders are going to cost over £60 million, and while Arsenal are reportedly in negotiations, they still seem pretty expensive. Aouar, on the other hand, is considerably cheaper and with Joe Willock set to depart in a £25 million deal to Newcastle United, the funds could be available.

To that end, Campbell has urged his former club to make use of those funds generated from the Willock sale and invest it in Aouar. The former striker suggested it would be good business to do so while feeling the Lyon star would bring quality to Arsenal’s attacking midfield. Speaking on The Highbury Squad podcast, Campbell had a few strong words to say about the French playmaker.

The former Arsenal striker said, “I thought we were going to get Aouar last season. The question on Houssem Aouar isn’t against Willock. It should be Aouar or Odegaard or Maddison or Bernando Silva? I think Aouar at £25 million. If you say, we are going to sell Willock for £25m and bring in Aouar for the same money then you say that’s good business.”

Mikel Arteta badly needs an attacking midfielder to complete his squad for the upcoming season and the evidence was clear during those Mind Series friendly losses to Chelsea and Spurs. Whether it is Aouar, Silva or Maddison, a playmaker has to come in to let other players be played in their preferred positions.

For instance, Emile Smith Rowe looks dangerous from the left flank rather than the centre, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette should not play together, as both are incompatible. Arteta, if he signs the playmaker, can make Arsenal a solid attacking side for the season ahead, and that is not possible with the current options.

    We need Auseem Auar

Bring in Martin Odegaard who has already adopted to the game of Arsenal already.

Auseem Auar will give us a top four finish. Join the project.

I totally agree KC. Why don’t we offer Inter Bellerin in exchange for Martinez plus cash then offer Atletico Madrid Lacazette in exchange for Trappier and then seal Aouar for the attacking Midfielder position. That will resolve most of our issues and concentrate on the defensive midfielder position.
