Karim Benzema has backed compatriot and PSG star Kylian Mbappe to join Real Madrid, claiming that it is only a matter of time before the move happens.

Speaking to French publication L’Equipe, as quoted by Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has made a sensational claim regarding Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.

The 33-year-old forward, who shares the dressing room with Mbappe for the French national team, has insisted that the PSG ace will make his way to Real Madrid sooner or latter, claiming that it was only a matter of time before the transfer happened.

These claims come amidst Mbappe’s contract standoff at PSG. Having signed for Les Parisiens in 2017 from AS Monaco, the 22-year-old has grown into one of the most feared attackers in the game. A FIFA World Cup winner, he has also won a host of major honours with the French capital outfit and, as a result, has registered on the radars of several top clubs across Europe.

Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of Mbappe and have been eyeing his signing for a while now. In fact, the Merengues made multiple offers to try and sign him during the summer earlier this year, only to see their bids being turned away by PSG. But given that the Frenchman is in the final year of his contract at the club, he will be able to leave on a free transfer next year.

And Benzema seems to have dropped a huge hint that Mbappe may very well be on his way to Real Madrid when that happens. “Kylian Mbappé will join Real Madrid one day, I’m sure. I don’t know when, but he’ll come, it’s only a matter of time. He said it himself,” the veteran centre-forward said while speaking to L’Equipe.

It is no secret that Mbappe has turned down contract offers from PSG already. Come January, he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement over a summer move with clubs from abroad, giving Real Madrid a huge advantage.

And, even though Manchester City have seemingly made a late entry into the picture, it seems like Mbappe’s mind is already made up over a move to Real Madrid if Benzema’s statements are to go by. What now remains to be seen if if the French international indeed ends up joining with Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu next year or signs an extension at PSG.
