Jurgen Klopp has ruled out a move for Kylian Mbappe, although he admitted Liverpool were interested in the PSG star.

Kylian Mbappe is set to become one of the most high-profile free agents in football history, as he is likely to depart PSG in the summer. The Parisians have tried their best to convince the forward to stay put, but it seems the Frenchman has his heart set on an exit from the club.

PSG made a mammoth contract offer to convince the 23-year-old forward, which could have become the highest-paid player in world football. Early signs indicated a stay for Mbappe in Paris, although Real Madrid have emerged as his preferred destination in the summer.

Los Blancos are likely to save up on a transfer fee, but they will be paying a hefty wage package to Mbappe. Despite the forward’s ever-increasing demands to join Real Madrid, there is a conviction he will become their star arrival in the summer.

Amid the transfer tussle between Real Madrid and PSG, Liverpool’s name was mentioned a few times as Jurgen Klopp reportedly liked the idea of recruiting Mbappe. However, many brushed it off as rumours considering the wage demands of the player, which may be beyond the Merseysiders’ reach.

Klopp confirmed Liverpool held an interest in the striker. He insisted insisting it would be a no-brainer for any club to not be keen on the Frenchman. His comments were quoted by the Mirror, as the Liverpool boss effectively ruled out a move for Mbappe in the coming window.

Klopp said, “Of course, we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind! Actually, I have nothing to say about that [reported contact] but between Kylian and Liverpool. It’s all set, it’s all fine. We of course like him and if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself. But no we are not, we cannot be part of these battles. There must be other clubs involved and that is fine. He is a great player.”

Liverpool will focus on extending Mohamed Salah’s contract while also exploring how they can keep Sadio Mane at the club for the future. In the forward line, the Merseysiders have a good stable of attackers while they bolstered their options with the signing of Luis Diaz in the January window.

Mbappe would have turned them into world-beaters, although the wage demands of the PSG superstar will deter any club from even approaching. The Frenchman is likely to become the next superstar arrival at Real Madrid, leaving behind one of the most lucrative offers from PSG.
