Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the injury sustained by Mohamed Salah against Brighton, suggesting further tests will determine the extent of the problem.

Liverpool fans were given a cause for worry on Saturday as Mohamed Salah walked off the field with an apparent injury during their game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Salah appeared to hurt his foot in a challenge before he stepped up and scored the crucial second goal from the penalty spot. While Liverpool ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Brighton, the injury to the Egyptian may have cast a shadow on the fans’ celebration.

With each game in the Premier League and Champions League holding crucial value, Jurgen Klopp would want to have his most important goalscorer available for selection. Liverpool have a crunch midweek fixture against Arsenal, where dropped points could prove costly for them in the title race.

The injury comes during a tough week for the fans, as they are also concerned about Salah’s long-term future. The forward has reportedly refused to accept Liverpool’s latest contract offer, prompting speculation about a possible summer departure.

However, the contract talks aside, Jurgen Klopp provided an update to the media on Salah’s foot injury after the game against Brighton. Goal.com quoted the Liverpool boss from the post-game press conference as saying, “He got blocked before the penalty, when he shot the ball he overstretched his foot slightly. He felt it then a little bit higher, but he’s not concerned. I’m not sure what that means exactly.

“Obviously, we all know that Mo is not injured that often, and I hope it stays like this. He thinks it will be fine, but we will see. You could see he couldn’t walk properly, so we need further assessment for sure.

“We’d have taken him off whatever the result. We have options. Bobby [Firmino] didn’t even play today. I saw [the injury] immediately, then it went quite quickly, penalty, bam bam. Then after that you see him going down. I’m not sure that happened before with Mo, to be honest.”

It’s not long before Liverpool take the field against Arsenal at the Emirates. Since joining the Reds, Salah has been prolific against the Gunners and he will be a big loss if he does not recover in time.
