Chelsea veteran Jorginho has ruled out a summer departure from Stamford Bridge.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea star Jorginho has dismissed concerns regarding his future at the club amidst interest from Italian giants Juventus.

The central midfielder has been somewhat of an enigma since moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018. The 30-year-old has made 188 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and assisting eight more. Jorginho has impressed on numerous occasions but has also shown off his frustrating side several times.

However, he remains a key member of the Chelsea first team and is often used in the midfield alongside N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. The fact that he has played regularly under numerous managers is a testament to his ability as a footballer. He took that to the international stage last season, playing a role in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph.

Jorginho is in the final year of his Chelsea contract and has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus showing an interest. The player has now put all speculation to rest, claiming that he is loving life at Stamford Bridge.

“I feel very well here and of course, I’d like to stay. But you know, a lot is going on and we don’t know. I have a contract and I love to be here. So I don’t think about moving anywhere,” Jorginho said.

This is good news for manager Thomas Tuchel, who needs to revamp his attack and defence ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Not having to worry about also rebuilding his midfield roster will be a welcome relief to the German.

Despite the success the 30-year-old has had in London, he is hungry for more and is keen to his trophy count next season. “The motivation is that I do what I love. This was my dream when I was a kid. I dreamt that I could win – and so if I win the same title it is still special. I look at my medals every day and love them. It’s why I want to win more,” the Italian added.

While the Italian international’s comments come as welcome news, it could hurt Chelsea, in the long run, should he fail to pen a new deal. Should that happen, Chelsea risk losing a Champions League-winning star for free in a year’s time.

Having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively on Bosman deals this summer, the Blues will do well to avoid repeating history with Jorginho. Unless Chelsea plan to hand him a new contract, there is no better time than now to cash in on the Italian. Whether it is an avenue that Chelsea will explore remains to be seen.
