Botafogo owner John Textor has confirmed that Matheus Nascimento is on Real Madrid’s radar while hinting the 18-year-old prodigy could leave Botafogo soon.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central has quoted recent comments by John Textor on the future of Matheus Nascimento. The Botafogo owner has indirectly confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in the 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy while suggesting he will sell the player if the two parties cannot reach a resolution in talks over a long-term contract.

Matheus Nascimento is the latest wondrous talent to emerge from the conveyor belt of promising attackers in South America. The player has come leaps and bounds during his climb through the ranks at Botafogo. The teenage prodigy joined the Brazilian club seven years ago and is now a regular feature for them as a budding first-team prospect.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for Botafogo in September 2020 and has since made 44 appearances for the Brazilian club, finding the back of the net eight times. But Nascimento’s time at Botafogo might end soon, with his exploits in his homeland capturing the attention of several clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid.

The reigning La Liga champions are renowned for regularly foraying into the South American market to land the most prodigious young talents. Such an outlook has fetched them several first-team stars over the years, with Federico Valverde, Rodrygo Goes, and Vinicius Jr. currently among the regulars for Los Blancos.

Among the latest crop of South American prospects, Nascimento has been on the Merenguesradar for several months. And Botafogo owner John Textor has now indirectly confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in the 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy.

Textor said, “Real Madrid’s interest in Matheus Nascimento? As far as I know, the player’s father has spoken with at least 12 teams. We want a quick solution for his future and if we can’t sign him to a long contract, I prefer to sell him soon.”

Apart from Real Madrid, the 18-year-old Brazilian wonderkid has also emerged on the radar of Lyon. And according to Textor, ten other clubs have talked to Nascimento’s father. With interest in him ramping up, it will not be surprising to see Nascimento leave Botafogo to embark on a new adventure in Europe this summer.
