Joan Laporta has confirmed that Ousmane Dembele will soon officially sign a new contract with Barcelona, ending the speculation surrounding the Frenchman.

Joan Laporta has spoken about Ousmane Dembele’s long-term future, as quoted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Barcelona president has confirmed that the French international has committed himself to the Blaugrana and will officially sign a new contract this week.

FC Barcelona have found themselves in some of the most captivating stories of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have scrambled to ease their financial woes by seeking to activate two economic levers, which in turn will help them sign their priority targets this summer while reducing the debt they have been burdened with for some time.

The effects of the levers can already be seen, with Barcelona confirming the agreement to sign Raphinha from Leeds United. They are also ready to continue negotiations with Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski. At the same time, Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation has bothered them.

Dembele’s contract renewal saga has dragged on for the better part of 2022, with the Frenchman even put on the transfer list back in January. But after a winter departure did not materialise, Barcelona went about tying the 25-year-old down to a new contract amid interest from several clubs, like Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

But while Dembele’s prospective suitors offered him lucrative contracts, he was determined to stay at FC Barcelona for a lower pay after rediscovering his best form under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez. And Joan Laporta has now confirmed that Dembele will officially sign his new contract with Barcelona this week.

The Barcelona president has revealed that Barcelona will sign Raphinha and Dembele before presenting them to Camp Nou this week. Laporta said, “Yes, this week we’ll sign and present Raphinha and Ousmane Dembélé.”

Dembele has been a free agent since the turn of the month, so he is yet to begin pre-season training. But following Laporta’s confirmation, it looks like the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will soon officially commit his future to Barcelona, signing a two-year contract to continue bolstering the Catalan club’s attacking unit this summer.
