Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that there is a ‘better chance’ of Robert Lewandowski signing for the club in the summer window.

Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, Barcelona are interested in signing a new marquee goalscorer who can lead their rebuild project under manager Xavi Hernandez.

Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland had been their priority target for the longest time. However, the 21-year-old striker is set to join Manchester City, with a move to the Etihad Stadium inching closer by the day. It has forced Barcelona to look at other alternatives, with Lewandowski emerging as their primary option.

The 33-year-old recently helped Bayern Munich win their tenth consecutive Bundesliga title after scoring his 48th goal of the 2021/22 season against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. However, his future at the Allianz Arena beyond the current campaign is a major doubt.

Lewandowski will be entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the season. And, talks over a new deal have not gone according to plans as Die Roten are unwilling to meet the striker’s demands for a long-term contract.

It has piqued the interest of Barcelona, who have held talks with the agents of Lewandowski over a possible summer move. And now Laporta has fanned the flames over a potential transfer by stating that there is a chance of the switch materialising at the end of the summer.

Earlier this week, a Barcelona fan quizzed Laporta if there was a chance that the club could sign Lewandowski, to which he responded in the affirmative, as reported by Goal. The fan asked Laporta, “Joan, is Lewandowski coming or not?” And the Barcelona president replied, “This one has a better chance of coming, yes.”

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn recently insisted that talks over a new contract for Lewandowski are set to take place soon while adding that the German champions are not entertaining the possibility of selling their ace goalscorer.

However, if an agreement over a new deal is not struck, there could be a possibility that Die Roten decide to cash in on Lewandowski instead of losing him for nothing in 2023. It remains to be seen how the situation evolves in the coming weeks.
