Arsenal have officially announced the January signing of non-league defender Cohen Bramall

The Gunners are believed to have paid Hednesford Town FC £40,000 for Bramall. The 20-year-old impressed on a trial with Arsenal recently, and the move marks a huge milestone in the career of the hitherto non-league player.

Bramall plays at left-back and has drawn comparisons to Arsenal and Chelsea great Ashley Cole. The 20-year-old will start out with the u23 side, but if all goes well, could be competing with the aging Nacho Monreal and unimpressive Kieran Gibbs for a first team place.

It is as yet unclear what plans manager Arsene Wenger has for the young gun. Bramall will look to emulate the likes of Jamie Vardy and Chris Smalling, who have both tasted Premier League success after developing from a non-league background.

Most of the Gooners on Twitter were very happy at the signing, and welcomed the young Englishman on-board.

However there were some who were a bit skeptical about the signing. Bramall isn’t exactly what who you’d call a blockbuster signing, and this provided another opportunity for the #wengerout brigade to draw their knives out.
