Hristo Stoichkov has urged Barcelona to sign Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

In an interview on Cadena SER’s ‘Què t’hi jugues’ program, Hristo Stoichkov has had his say on Barcelona’s pursuit of Erling Haaland. The Barcelona legend has insisted that the Borussia Dortmund goal machine will have a positive knock-on effect on the Blaugrana, urging them to make a “great effort” to land the Norwegian striker.

Erling Haaland has established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe since joining Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. While the Norwegian striker already had the world at his feet in the first half of the 2019/20 season, he has gone from strength to strength at the Signal Iduna Park.

Haaland’s record for the Bundesliga giants is simply mind-boggling, as he has amassed 80 goals and 21 assists in 79 appearances thus far. The 21-year-old has unsurprisingly become a hot property in the transfer market, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe hot on his trail.

Some of his prospective suitors are Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City, with the two La Liga heavyweights even presenting their offers for him. But amid intense competition for his signature, it might take something extraordinary to land the Norwegian goal machine.

Hristo Stoichkov has now urged Barcelona to step up their efforts and secure the services of Haaland as soon as possible. The Bulgarian legend has insisted that the Dortmund striker will have a positive knock-on effect on the Catalan giants, who are in desperate need of a turnaround in fortunes.

Stoichkov spent some of the most productive years of his career with Barcelona, enjoying a memorable five-year stint with the Blaugrana. He scored over 100 goals for Barcelona during this time, becoming an all-time great for the Catalan heavyweights.

Stoichkov said, “I would sign him. Barcelona need a knock-on effect. Hopefully the club will make a great effort for him to arrive and make history with Barcelona. He has a lot of quality, to score goals and also to assist.”

While Stoichkov has urged Barcelona to make a “great effort” to land Haaland, Real Madrid or Manchester City might be leading the race to sign the 21-year-old, according to Jan Aage Fjortoft, who has close ties with the Haaland family. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Barcelona will need to step up to prise the goal machine away from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
