Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has reacted excitedly following the announcement of the agreement to sign Jadon Sancho.

Reacting on Manchester United’s official website following the announcement that the agreement has been reached to sign Jadon Sancho, club legend Denis Irwin has expressed his satisfaction over its completion. The deal puts an end to a long-running saga between United and Borussia Dortmund for Sancho, with everyone, including Irwin, excited to watch him play.

Treble winner Irwin believes Manchester United have landed a great player who has already proven his mettle playing in the Bundesliga in recent seasons. He said, “I mean, you look at the Bundesliga last year and the amount of goals and assists he made for Borussia Dortmund. He’s got good experience, even though he’s a young lad, as Dortmund are a big team with big support, they’ve got great support there.”

Irwin also made it clear that Sancho might not take his time to adapt to playing in England, despite spending most of his senior career in Germany. He continued, “It’s great that he comes in and knows the Premier League and knows the surroundings in England. He should be able to slot in straight away, and I am really looking forward to watching him play.”

Irwin did not stop there with his praises of Sancho, as the Manchester United legend also had his say on how Sancho might fit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s system.

“He gives Ole more options, definitely more competition, as he’s a quality player. We’ve not seen much of him at the Euros as of yet, but he is very, very clever. He has great pace as well and an eye for goal.”

“I think, to play in a front-three, you’ve got to have an eye for goal, and he’ll certainly add to that. He can play in a number of positions, but he often plays in a front-three on the right for Dortmund.”

Of course, Irwin was not the only one singing praises, with Manchester United star Marcus Rashford quickly tweeting out his pleasure at the latest news from his club.

Sancho and Rashford are currently sharing space within the England camp for the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020, although both have seen less playing time at the showcase tournament. However, that may not be the case at club level, as both are expected to form part of an exciting front three for Manchester United next season.

Manchester United fans could get the first glimpse of Sancho playing in their colours during pre-season friendlies. United are scheduled to play Everton and New Boys Brentford before the new season begins.
