Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has heaped praise on new signing Jadon Sancho, predicting his success at Old Trafford this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports recently, Harry Maguire opened up on Manchester United’s goals and the need to win silverware this season. He has also lauded new signing and England teammate Jadon Sancho, calling him an exceptional talent.

Manchester United’s performance in the transfer market this summer has been particularly impressive, with the club bringing in Raphael Varane, in addition to Sancho. Although Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has urged for further investment, the Red Devils have firmly established themselves as one of the strongest sides in England.

Harry Maguire will be in charge of leading this new team as they look to secure their first title under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And speaking to the media, just ahead of the club’s Premier League opener against Leeds United, the defender has opened up United’s objectives in this campaign.

“We’ve made progress in terms of what we’ve done as a club and who we can compete against – the top teams around the world – and that’s where we’re at now. Of course, this is the time when we need to start delivering. We need to start winning trophies because we’ve proved over the past couple of years that we can be competitive again,” Maguire said.

Part of the United setup since 2019, the former Leicester City man also offered his thoughts on the new signing Sancho. “I think he’s been linked with us for a couple of seasons now, and it felt a bit like my transfer when I was joining Manchester United, where it didn’t happen one season, but the following season we managed to get it over the line,” he said when asked about the Englishman’s move to Old Trafford.

The duo had played together for the Three Lions in this summer’s Euro 2020. Unfortunately, both were involved in the infamous penalty shootout in the final against Italy, with Sancho missing his attempt, causing uproar from fans.

Maguire, though, has acknowledged his teammate’s talent and hailed him as a potential future star for the club. “I’m really excited for him, he’s an exceptional talent. He’s the type of player – with the confidence he has – who can be a real star for this club, and I feel like in the future and the success we have, he can have a big part to play,” he said.

The 28-year-old’s comments will certainly serve as a confidence booster for Sancho, who is trying to settle into his new life at Old Trafford. Fans will be particularly excited to witness him in action when Manchester United lock horns with arch-rivals Leeds United on Saturday.
