Gary Neville sends Manchester United warning ahead of Liverpool clash

After the defeat to Leicester City, Gary Neville gave a scathing assessment of Manchester United’s situation, suggesting they might find it tough with the next fixtures.

Manchester United were crushed by Leicester City, ending their incredible 29-game away run in the process. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under increased scrutiny following the loss, as the club have failed to win any of their last three games in the Premier League.

The roles of star players have been criticised after the game following their inability to perform their respective tasks. As Solskjaer himself highlighted on problems in his midfield, it was evident the players were not engaging in pressing the opposition, which let them have time on the ball to create chances.

After United’s defeat, Gary Neville spoke at length for Sky Sports, raising concerns over their title credentials. The former full-back highlighted current issues on the side and urged the players to perform better than they have been.

Neville said, “There are issues as their performance are nowhere near good enough,” Neville told Sky Sports before continuing “I said a few weeks ago that the moment where they started to play half-decent teams, they’re going to struggle. Aston Villa, Everton, Villarreal and Leicester are half decent teams.”

“The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances. There’s been some good results and some great individual goals, but the overall performances and the unit in and out of possession have been shoddy.”

Furthermore, the Sky Sports pundit highlighted the next few fixtures, suggesting the club’s title challenge could be in trouble.

He continued, “Oh, we know what’s coming. Having struggled against half decent teams, they’re now going to play against some of the best teams in the world. Next Sunday, they’re going to play Liverpool and then they have to play Man City the week after.”

“They’re going to play Tottenham, and then Chelsea, and these are proper teams. Of course, the players could rise for those games, but they didn’t make a good start today.”
