Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale has backed ex-teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, to succeed at Manchester United following his surprise return to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale has predicted how Cristiano Ronaldo will fare upon his return to Manchester United this summer.

Ronaldo spent six successful years at Manchester United between 2003 and 2009, before going on to join Real Madrid where he etched his name in history. During his time in Spain, the Portuguese maverick shared time with Bale, as the duo played a key role in Los Blancos‘ European domination.

Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018 and after three years, has decided to return to his old stomping ground, Old Trafford, in what came as a surprise move late in the transfer window. The 36-year-old Portuguese maverick’s return as naturally created a buzzing atmosphere in and around Manchester United.

And Bale, who has seen what Ronaldo is capable of from close quarters, has backed his former Real Madrid teammate to score goals in big numbers in England. “I’m sure he’ll do well. He’s proven it before in the Premier League so he understands the league.

“He’s done everything there is in football. His goalscoring ability is matched by no one else. [I am] excited to it like everyone else,” Bale said.

Ronaldo is in line to make his second Manchester United debut this weekend when the Red Devils play hosts to Newcastle United. Having returned early from international duty due to a suspension, the Portuguese international completed his quarantine period and was seen participating in his first training session at Carrington on Tuesday.

Whether he is fit and ready to start by the weekend will certainly be interesting to see. Ronaldo’s arrival, as iterated earlier, has created a lot of positive vibe around Old Trafford, although there have been a few that have questioned if his signing is enough for the 20-time English champions to challenge for titles.

Nonetheless, fans will be buzzing and Old Trafford will undoubtedly be electric this weekend should Ronaldo step out onto the field as expected. Manchester United have collected seven points from three games in the Premier League so far and will be aiming to bag another win against the Magpies.
