After an impressive summer transfer window, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has given his verdict on Manchester United’s chances in the Premier League title race.

Manchester United finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester City last term, although the race was not closely fought by the time the season ended. They also came within inches of lifting the UEFA Europa League crown, although they endured a difficult night against Villarreal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted his club to show ambition in the transfer market, and Manchester United duly obliged. Unlike the previous windows, marred by chaos, United were swift enough to complete important deals. While the ongoing transfer window still has time before shutting down, many believe the club have assembled a good enough squad.

Solskjaer wants his side to be genuine contenders for the Premier League title while also trying their hand at progressing in Europe. To do so, Manchester United have already signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, who will complement an already good looking attacking line.

Furthermore, Solskjaer has shored up his defence big time after signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, making his team a formidable force to reckon. However, their credentials will be tested this season, and it will be a crucial campaign to determine the manager’s future as well.

Frank Lampard has added on to the belief that Manchester United will be title challengers this season. The former Chelsea boss suggested the side, along with Liverpool, cannot be discounted and believes they have a good enough side to compete with Manchester City.

The Manchester Evening News posted quotes by Lampard about the upcoming season. Speaking on who will challenge Manchester City for the title, the Chelsea legend said, “I think you can’t discount Manchester United. They were not far off last year and have gone again, and I think brought in really impressive signings, and I think Liverpool will be the same.”

“They missed huge players through injury for a big part of last season, and the year before, they were one of the best teams we’ve seen in the Premier League, so you definitely can’t discount those.”

While Liverpool may not have added significantly to their squad, they got heavily disrupted by injuries last season, and, in general, they have a good enough team to win the league. Manchester United have got to make the best of the new signings and straightaway challenge for the title. The ambition needs to be visible right from day one of the new season.
