Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Everton to make a move for Kieran Trippier, who is also a target for Manchester United.

Kieran Trippier will be remembered for his impressive displays for Tottenham before making a rather unusual move to Atletico Madrid two years ago. He formed an important part of Diego Simeone’s side in Spain and won the La Liga crown last season.

Since being selected for England’s Euros squad in the summer, Trippier has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League, as reports claimed he was desperate for a return to his native country. As expected, some of the big clubs were instantly showing an interest, most notably Manchester United.

United were assessing the situation as they wanted to bring a top-rated full-back as competition to Aaron Wan Bissaka. A move would depend on the future of Diogo Dalot, who had an impressive season in Italy with AC Milan. Coupled with his impressive pre-season displays, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seemingly decided to keep the Portuguese, thus ending the pursuit of Trippier.

Arsenal were also reportedly linked in the last weeks, although a move was only doubtful from the start of those stories. Everton are another club that were initially tipped to sign the England international to solve their issues at right-back. Seamus Coleman is at the wrong end of his career and needs a viable competition or replacement.

Ben Godfrey played several games as a right-back. At the same time, former manager Carlo Ancelotti also deployed attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi in that position or as wing-back several times last season. Everton need a proper player in the right-back slot, and with his experience, Trippier could fit the bill.

Former England and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson had his say on the situation and tips the Toffees to make a move before the end of the window. Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham ace said, “Everton is a top club, and he has a good opportunity to play there.”

“If there’s interest from Manchester United, it’s a different story. If you have to choose between Manchester United and Everton, you’d pick the former. Everton are a great option for Trippier if he wants to come home. And Trippier would be great for Everton if they want to push on to the next level. I expected more from them in this window, and I can see them going for him.”

Trippier is 30 years old, although his form last season and at the Euros fails to suggest he lacks anything in his game. However, Atletico Madrid are demanding more than £30 million for the right-back, which could become a deal-breaker. However, he still would be a great option for Everton heading into a crucial season.
