David de Gea has held back no punches in his brutal appraisal of Manchester United’s stunning loss to Everton.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United superstar, David de Gea has given a rather unflattering verdict on his side’s insipid 1-0 loss to a struggling Everton at Goodison Park.

The Red Devils struggled to break down an Everton side that conceded three against Burnley just days ago as Frank Lampard’s side secured all three points thanks to a deflected effort by Anthony Gordon that left de Gea flat-footed.

The Spaniard could only look on agonisingly as Gordon’s strike took a huge deflection off Harry Maguire to leave the goalkeeper helpless. This turned to fury at full-time as the Red Devils failed to find a way back into the game and once again dropped points.

Everton have been one of the poorest teams in the Premier League this season and de Gea is under no impression that Manchester United should have won the game. He went on to call the Red Devils’ performance a disgrace and could not have been further from the truth.

“It is a disgrace from us, we should be winning this game,” he said.

Having dropped points once again, Ralf Rangnick’s side now face an uphill task of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League. They now trail Tottenham Hotspur, who are in the fourth spot, by six points. With just a handful of games to go, Manchester United have to rely on others to finish in the top four.

De Gea also admitted that the Red Devils could have their task cut out in the efforts to finish in the top four. Despite having several top players on the field, the Red Devils showed little attacking impetus and looked largely bereft of ideas.

“We don’t score but we don’t create proper chances to score. We are not good enough, that is for sure. It will be difficult to be in the top four,” the Spanish goalkeeper added.

Having already exited all other competitions, Manchester United have little to play for this season apart from attempting to secure a top-four berth. The fact that these players put in such a toothless performance in a game with much at stake is a massive red flag.

Whether it be Erik ten Hag or someone else who eventually takes over as the permanent manager, they will have a big task on their hands to add some fire to a largely uninspiring bunch of players.
