Danny Mills has urged Liverpool to hand Mohamed Salah a new bumper deal, suggesting it would cost more to replace the Egyptian.

This season, Mohamed Salah has hit a rich vein of form, scoring 10 goals in as many games and providing four assists in all competitions. His recent performances against Manchester City and Watford have elevated his status as one of the best in the Premier League. He also matched Didier Drogba as the top-scoring African in the league.

The Egyptian has also been in the news for his contractual situation at the club. There are whispers about a renewal offer, which could be tabled for Salah to consider in the coming weeks. The reported new contract would make Salah the highest earner at Liverpool, with wages of around £350,000-a-week on a long-term deal.

Salah, 29, is certainly looking to capitalise on his terrific form since joining Liverpool, while he will have no shortage of suitors if talks between both parties fail. There have been rumours from sections of the media regarding the Reds lining up potential replacements for the Egyptian if he does leave.

Former Leeds United star Danny Mills believes Liverpool should hand the forward a bumper deal and get his future sorted with the club. Mills told Football Insider how the club might end up spending more on finding a replacement if they decide to part ways.

Mills said, “He’s a fantastic player, he’s worth it. If that’s the going rate, that’s the going rate. If they were to lose Mo Salah, how much does it cost to replace him?

“You’ve got to get a transfer in of £60million, £70million then you’ve got to give them £150,000, £200,000-a-week. You’ve got to look at  . There are the bonuses and signing-on fees too.

“It may well put a few noses out of joint, but if you’re the manager or the sporting director and says something to you, you can say ‘Hang on, he’s better than you and a lot better than you. He’s worth £100million, so come back when you’re worth near that’.

“Just because he’s in the team and doing the same job, every business in the lad has directors on different salaries because they do different jobs and perform differently.”
