Cristiano Ronaldo tipped to become Manchester United manager by Tim Sherwood

Tim Sherwood has bizarrely suggested Cristiano Ronaldo could become Manchester United’s manager in the next phase.

Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United in the summer and has already made his mark scoring goals in all his appearances for the club so far. Three goals in the Premier League so far, coupled with a strike during the loss to Young Boys in the Champions League, has cleared the doubts anyone had on the Portuguese.

However, there are already suggestions the 36-year-old could get into management soon, even without the Portuguese not claiming anything related. Ronaldo has proved his extreme fitness levels at all his clubs, and there’s been no indication whatsoever of him slowing down.

There’s a whole season ahead for Ronaldo to help Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer win trophies as they still compete on three fronts after their Carabao Cup exit. However, suggestions about becoming a manager might have stemmed from his recent antics on the touchline against Young Boys, standing right beside the manager.

Rio Ferdinand criticised the behaviour after that particular game, and it’s not the first time Ronaldo has done such a thing. During the now-famous Euro 2016 Final, the forward was seen on the touchline besides Portugal manager Fernando Santos, barking instructions at his teammates after being substituted through injury.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has bizarrely suggested Ronaldo could become Manchester United manager, possibly after 18-months, once his contract at the club expires.

Sherwood said, “I think it’s OK that Ronaldo’s on the touchline and Ole’s going to have to accept it. If he brings him to his football club, you’ve got to know what you’re bringing in. It’s a completely different Ronaldo to the one who was at Old Trafford the first time around.

“He knows how he’s needed, and if he feels like he needs to stand next to the manager and give instructions, then you’ve got to let him do that. I’m not sure he’d be doing that with Jose Mourinho, mind you; it would be very different with him still in charge, but you’d also have to ask Ronaldo why he feels it’s necessary to stand up and give some instruction in the first place.

“I would have a bet on him being Manchester United manager in 18 months. Whenever Ronaldo finishes playing, I think he will become a manager; it will be an automatic choice.”

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer firmly settled in the hot seat at Old Trafford, there’s no suggestion he could be replaced at the club, let alone by Ronaldo, although questions will be raised following the Carabao Cup exit. Meanwhile, Manchester United hold an option for extending the striker’s deal by another year. If Ronaldo keeps his scoring form going for 18 months, they might just extend his agreement.
