Glen Johnson spoke at length about several things about Chelsea’s team, while warning them about a possible Romelu Lukaku problem.

Chelsea have had a rather quiet transfer market up until they decided to go big with the signing of Romelu Lukaku. The Premier League side signed goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli on a free transfer from Fulham, and chased Erling Haaland as their marquee signing for most of the summer.

However, when it became clear a transfer for the Norwegian won’t be viable, they immediately switched attention to Lukaku, making a massive offer to Inter Milan and agreeing to terms. The striker is set to move as soon as possible, with a medical already done in Milan.

Having proved his worth in Italy, the Belgian forward has ‘unfinished business’ back in England. It could be concerned to his underachievements during his spells at Everton, Manchester United and especially at Chelsea itself. While most quarters are lauding Chelsea’s re-capture of the striker, some are questioning whether bringing him back will be worthwhile.

Former Chelsea and Liverpool star Glen Johnson happens to be among those questioning the move altogether, laying down concerns whether the Premier League suits him at all. He also spoke at length about other things related to Chelsea, while we focus on the said subject.

Speaking to Betting Odds, the former full-back cast doubts over Lukaku’s return to the Premier League. Johnson said, “I’m not so sure the Premier League suits Lukaku to be honest.

“Obviously he’s a big, powerful lad, quite physical but I just think the Premier League’s a bit too quick for him. So no, I wouldn’t like to see him return. But in certain leagues, he is going to get goals, albeit at a slightly slower pace.”

Johnson also went on to dismiss the idea of bringing Antoine Griezmann in place of Lukaku, as the Barcelona forward could be considered a cheaper alternative to the Belgian. He went to suggest that there are too many players already in the ranks of Chelsea with the likes of Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner in the same mould as the Frenchman.

However, concerning Johnson’s admission about Lukaku, it is difficult to judge the outcome of the upcoming transfer. While Lukaku has taken his game to another level with Inter Milan; the Premier League is still of different style, and only time will tell if the striker is suited enough to be a hit in England.
