Carney Chukwuemeka has been advised to reject advances from Liverpool and extend his contract at Aston Villa.

During an interview with Football Insider, Gabriel Agbonlahor has offered his thoughts on the future of Carney Chukwuemeka. Amid speculations surrounding his potential departure from Villa Park, the former Aston Villa striker has advised the youngster to bide his time and extend his contract.

Widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in the country, Chukwuemeka has been a part of Aston Villa since 2016. During his time at the club, the midfielder has emerged as a promising starlet, who was notably given his promotion to the senior side in the summer.

Chukwuemeka was linked with an exit from Villa Park earlier in the year, with various clubs across England interested in his services. The youngster, though, opted to remain at Aston Villa in the hopes of securing a breakthrough in professional football.

But even after a total of 18 minutes of league action last season, his official promotion to the senior side at the start of the new season served as an indicator of a potential breakthrough for the player. However, the decision to remain at Villa Park appears to have backfired for the 18-year-old, who has featured in only two league matches so far.

As a result, Chukwuemeka is reportedly keen on securing an exit from Aston Villa, with Liverpool among the clubs interested in his services in the upcoming January transfer window.

However, Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that a hasty departure from Villa Park could spell trouble for the youngster. “My message to him would be, Aston Villa is the best place for you to be,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“You might have clubs like Man City and Man United looking at you but you’ve got more chance of breaking through at Aston Villa and get minutes. When you get your chance take it. My advice would be to reject offers from Liverpool and everyone else, stay and sign a new contract with the club.”

The former Aston Villa forward continued, stating that Chukwuemeka might soon receive his opportunities if he remains patient. “He will get his chance and you’ve got to be patient. Look at Jacob Ramsey, he got his chance. He’s still young. All you need is that one game, make it count and you’ll stay in the team,” he added.

Carney Chukwuemeka’s current contract at Aston Villa expires in 2023, though, with very little indication that the player wants to prolong his career at the club. Perhaps a lot will be decided in January, especially given how new coach Steven Gerrard has started to change things around, coupled with the uncertain future of Douglas Luiz, who has been linked with an exit to AS Roma.
