Carlo Ancelotti has suggested that Marco Asensio wants to leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and is looking for his next club.

During a recent conversation with Movistar, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Marco Asensio is looking to see if he can leave Real Madrid before the summer transfer window shuts down. But the Real Madrid boss added that the Spanish attacker will become a pivotal figure again if he is still at the Santiago Bernabeu in September.

Marco Asensio has reached a critical phase of his career as he stares at an uncertain future at Real Madrid. That is despite finishing the 2021/22 season as Real Madrid’s third-highest with 12 goals across all competitions, with only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. finding the back of the net more often.

Asensio has barely featured for Real Madrid in the early stages of the 2022/23 campaign, with even Eden Hazard leapfrogging him in the pecking order. And after entering the final year of his Real Madrid contract, he might embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window, with talks over a new deal stalling.

Several European bigwigs have shown interest in Asensio in the last few weeks, with the latest club to be hot on his heels being AS Roma. And Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed that Asensio might be actively looking to leave Real Madrid and join a new club before the summer transfer window shuts down.

The Real Madrid manager told Movistar (h/t Fabrizio Romano), “I think Asensio is looking to see if he can leave. If he doesn’t leave, in September he will be 100% Real Madrid and my player.”

Asensio’s situation illustrates the level of competition at Real Madrid, as despite scoring 12 goals in all competitions and embarking on his most productive campaign at the club level, he has failed to become an undisputed first-choice attacker for Los Blancos. But with several clubs showing interest in him, Asensio might sort his future soon.

It will be interesting to see if the Spanish international succeeds in sealing a summer departure from the Bernabeu. For now, Ancelotti has confirmed Asensio’s uncertain Real Madrid future, as the 26-year-old looks to join a new club before the summer transfer window shuts down.
