Kevin Campbell is confident that Bukayo Saka will sign a new contract, suggesting Arsenal will sort it out in the summer.
It was not too long ago that Bukayo Saka’s long-term Arsenal future was in question, before the youngster signed a four-year deal in the summer of 2020, earning the No.7 shirt in the process. When the current season ends, he will have 24 months left on that contract, prompting Arsenal to renew the terms of the agreement to fit his current stature in the team.
Saka’s importance in Mikel Arteta’s side has grown exponentially as he has become one of Arsenal’s most important players. There is considerable value and belief placed in him by the Gunners’ fanbase, who are expecting their academy graduate to stay at the club for a long time.
There is already talk of a new contract for Saka, with Arsenal being urged to tie him down quickly and avoid a scenario where the player runs down his deal. The north Londoners have to initiate contact before the season ends. Some sections suggest the player could decide his future on the basis of the club’s ability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal’s win over Wolves certainly improved their chances of finishing in the top four; they still have 16 games to go before they can cement a place in the continental tournament. Meanwhile, if Saka does decide to depart, the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City are ready to pounce.
However, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell seems relaxed about the prospect of Saka staying put for a long time, suggesting the club will sort his contract out in the summer. He told Football Insider that he was confident that the Gunners will tie the winger down to a long-term deal.
Campbell said, “Listen, Saka is going to get sorted; this is 100 per cent. Make no mistake about that. Man City and Liverpool can have an eye on him all they want. He is an Arsenal player, and the club are going to do the right thing and keep him. He is a homegrown player and an unbelievable talent. You have to tie your best players down to new long-term contracts.”
“In the summer, it will be two years. That is the time where you have to renew. Arsenal does not want to go down the route where a player has 18 months left on his contract again. It makes no sense. Sort it out this summer. Make him wanted and make him feel special. He’s one of the top players at the club and reward him for it.”
As things stand, Arsenal’s prospects of securing Saka’s long-term future appear bright. But Liverpool will surely be closely monitoring the situation, waiting for any kind of slip-up to make their move.
