Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Youri Tielemans could leave Leicester City in the summer transfer window amid interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

Speaking in an exclusive interest with Sky Sports this past weekend, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that the club could be in a position to lose midfield mainstay Youri Tielemans in the summer due to his contract situation.

Tielemans will be entering the final year of his deal with the Foxes at the end of the season. And reports over the weekend reported that the Belgian international had turned down a new offer from Leicester over an extension. The former RSC Anderlecht and AS Monaco midfielder’s situation has put a slew of top clubs in England on high alert.

Liverpool are believed to be in the hunt for Tielemans’ signing, while Arsenal are also closely monitoring the situation, having already attempted to sign him during the January transfer window.

With the situation being as it is, Rodgers has admitted that there is a very good chance Tielemans will leave in the summer while adding that it would not be a surprise to see top clubs wanting to sign him.

“Absolutely, but that can be the same for a number of players in the squad. With his contract running down then I’m pretty sure there will be teams looking at him but I’m also a realist as well,” he said.

“We are real as a football club. You’ll get people asking if we can hang on to these players for the next six or seven years but the reality is that if a player does really well at Leicester, he may want to leave and move on to another club. For us, it’s just about being ready for that.”

Apart from Liverpool and Arsenal, there is also a strong interest in Tielemans from Manchester United. The 24-year-old has been with Leicester for a little over three years now, having arrived from AS Monaco in January 2019. Signed initially on loan, the Foxes brought him in permanently in the summer later that year, from which point he has been a mainstay in the side.

Considering his development over the past years, it does not come as a surprise that top clubs are lining up to sign him. With Tielemans believed to have rejected a new deal at Leicester, it will be interesting to see where he ends up come summer.
