Borja Mayoral is keen on staying put and succeeding at Real Madrid despite strong links with a move to Getafe, his agent has revealed.

Speaking to COPE (h/t MARCA), Alejandro Camano, the agent of Spanish striker Borja Mayoral, has claimed that the forward has no desire to leave Real Madrid this summer despite links to Getafe.

Mayoral is back at Real Madrid after spending the last two seasons away on loan. The striker enjoyed a solid spell at AS Roma in 2020/21 but failed to play regularly in the Italian capital in the first half of the 2021/2 campaign. As a result, he was sent on loan to Getafe for the second half of the previous campaign, where he impressed heavily.

Back at Real Madrid, Mayoral is in the final year of his contract with Los Blancos, and there have been a lot of speculations over his future. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a permanent move to Getafe, with recent reports stating that the Spaniard was closing in on a move to the Azulones.

However, his agent has now refuted those claims, stating that Mayoral is determined to stay at Real Madrid and further his career at his boyhood club after having spent several seasons away on loan.

“Borja is coming into the final year of his contract. He is a very very passionate Madridista and he has decided on his own to give it everything so that he can produce in the final opportunity of his life and try to be happy at Real Madrid,” Mayoral’s agent, Alejandro Camano said.

However, at the same time, he insisted that the decision was not only up to him and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and the club management would also have a big say in where he ends up in the upcoming season.

“But it doesn’t depend just on him, also Real Madrid. He wanted to be there in the preseason, Ancelotti is treating him spectacularly well, the club has always been affectionate towards him and his colleagues are giving him confidence. Once the preseason is finished, he will be in a position to take a decision,” Camano said.

“The best-positioned team are Real Madrid, which is what gets Borja excited. We haven’t closed anything at all and we continue listening to things that are happening in the market. Borja’s situation is special and the reality is that we continue to listen to teams, but always while contemplating the possibility of staying at Madrid,” he added.

With Real Madrid not having a reliable backup for Karim Benzema in the No. 9 role, keeping Mayoral at the club would make sense for the club. Whether they do that or decide to cash in on the Spaniard will be interesting to see.
