Danny Mills lauded Arsenal’s Ben White capture claiming his surprise at no top-four interest in him after branding the Brighton star “Better than Christensen”.

Danny Mills has been speaking his mind out on TalkSport recently. He went on a tirade against Arsenal in those talks and garnered attention over his claims that Robert Pires brought diving to the Premier League. The former Man City and Leeds defender was not impressed with the Gunners and criticised them on several fronts.

However, the former defender did have kind words for the North London side for signing a certain defender. Mills was impressed with Arsenal agreeing a £50 million deal for Ben White with Brighton and believes the North London side have acquired one of the top-rated defenders in the country.

Apart from lauding Arsenal for their shrewd business, Mills showed his surprise that no other top Premier League side attempted to sign the defender. Mills felt White would have been a brilliant addition to any of those top-four sides and would have made them into sure-shot contenders heading into next season.

Among those teams, Mills felt Chelsea would have benefited greatly by signing White and claimed the Brighton defender was “Better than [Andreas] Christensen”. The Danish star has played at Stamford Bridge for some years now and played a key role under Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea won the Champions League last term.

Speaking on Talksport, Mills discussed various topics ranging from the Gunners’ capture of the defender and the Blues targeting some high profile strikers. Here’s what Mills had to say about White, Arsenal and Chelsea;

“If you go, Haaland or Kane, it’s job done. Good chance of winning the league, but you’ve got to be realistic about that. Defensively, they are very strong. Go back to my point about Ben White. Would Chelsea not be interested? Ben White has got to be better than Andreas Christensen, surely?

“I think so, and Arsenal fans probably wouldn’t swap Ben White for Andreas Christensen. I’m a little bit surprised that no top-four club, a more successful club in recent seasons, have come in for Ben White,” Mills said.

Mills does not explicitly say Christensen is a bad defender. He does acknowledge the Danish star’s contribution and influence in the Blues’ backline but highlighted certain points that White could have brought to the Chelsea side if they signed him.

“If Chelsea do need a centre-back, he’d slot in there perfectly. He can play in a two; he can play in a three. He can play in midfield if he had to. Good defender and is great on the ball. From his perspective, he would be playing Champions League football with a possible chance of winning it again and a chance of winning the Premier League,” he added.

Whatever Mills thinks, and even if he is perfectly right about his opinion, Chelsea have missed the boat to sign the Brighton defender. Arsenal, meanwhile, are genuinely getting a top-class defender who could potentially be the leader of their backline for years to come.
