Antonio Conte has urged Tottenham Hotspur’s senior players to step up their game and help the club finish in the top four.

Since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte has appeared quite outspoken about Tottenham Hotspur’s shortcomings, both on and off the pitch.

While the Italian has not shied away from taking the blame for the club’s inconsistent performances, he has also, at times, criticised the club management for the poor performances in the January transfer window while even questioning the mentality of the players.

In his most recent interaction with the media, Conte has now urged Tottenham’s seniormost players to step up and produce consistent performances, in their bid to finish inside top four.

“If you want to have a hope to fight until the end for this type of target, this is the moment I have to ask a lot to the big players,” Conte told the media, as quoted by The Athletic.

The Italian tactician pointed out three players, in particular, in the form of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min, urging them to step up to the plate and deliver on the pitch. “To Harry, Hugo and Sonny. These players have to lead the situation to keep us until the end there.”

“At the moment, experience is very important. We don’t have a lot of experience in this team, and it’s right to ask the players with experience and big talent to give everything.”

“I think they’re giving everything, but 100 per cent is not enough. We need to ask 120, 130 per cent to have this type of target. It will be very important to”have people with great talent to lead us until the end and to try to be very close to reaching this target,” the Italian added, as he hopes for an upturn of fortunes in the coming weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently eighth in the Premier League table, five points adrift of the top four. Their recent defeat to Manchester United served as a major blow in their hopes of finishing inside the UEFA Champions League places, but the Lilywhites will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion this midweek.
