Antonio Cassano has questioned Romelu Lukaku over his real reasons to return to Chelsea amid rumours that he is set to leave Inter Milan this summer.

The summer transfer window this year is shaping up to be quite an intriguing one. Despite the fact that clubs across the world have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic, we have already seen some big moves being completed. To make matters even more exciting, a certain Lionel Messi is a free agent!

Oddly enough, Chelsea have been one of the quieter clubs in the transfer market this summer, with only one signing completed in the form of Marcus Bettinelli. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the Blues are taking the steps to complete a couple of major signings, one of them being that of Romelu Lukaku.

Signing a top class striker has been seen as a priority for Chelsea this summer following a season wherein Jorginho finished as their top scorer in the Premier League. With Timo Werner being used behind the central striker and Tammy Abraham being heavily linked with a summer exit, it is clear why Chelsea would want to sign a striker.

To that end, the west Londoners were heavily linked with Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski before they turned their attention towards a familiar name. Romelu Lukaku quickly became a key target for Chelsea, who have even had a bid rejected for him. However, as per latest developments, Lukaku is inching closer to re-joining Chelsea. Having said that, Antonio Cassano has questioned the Belgian’s motivations for completing such a move.

Speaking on Twitch, Cassano said, “If the figures are those, I will personally take him there. But then I want to understand some of the circumstances, in England, he had two very bad experiences, a good one with Everton, and he returns there.”

“I ask a question: at Inter, he gets €8 million; at Chelsea, they offer him €14 million, according to what I read. You come back to a team that didn’t appreciate you, so I ask: are you going for the money?”

Cassano has asked some serious questions from Lukaku, although the reports suggest that he is keen on returning to Chelsea as he feels he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge. As per the latest claims, the 28-year-old has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and it will be interesting to see if he can complete a big return to the west London club this summer.
