Real Betis president Angel Haro has claimed that the recent speculation linking Nabil Fekir with Barcelona does not worry him.

While addressing the media ahead of Real Betis’s UEFA Europa League tie with Zenit St. Petersburg, Angel Haro has responded to recent speculation surrounding Nabil Fekir. The Real Betis president has claimed that he is not worried about the Frenchman’s links with Barcelona while hoping the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will remain with the club for a long time.

Nabil Fekir has done well to recover from long-term fitness issues and a collapsed transfer to Liverpool to establish himself as one of the best players in La Liga since joining Real Betis from Lyon in July 2019. And after initially being slow to settle down at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, the Frenchman has become a pivotal figure for the Verdiblancos.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a solid 2021/22 campaign, racking up a tally of nine goals and seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. Fekir has been instrumental in Real Betis’s shock ascent to the third spot in the La Liga standings, bringing his side into contention for a top-four finish.

Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have unsurprisingly noticed the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s exploits, including La Liga heavyweights Barcelona. And Real Betis president Angel Haro has now responded to the widespread speculation linking Fekir with Barcelona.

As quoted by AS, the Real Betis president said, “Fekir? He’s a great player. I wouldn’t dare to say if he’s the best in La Liga. It’s a spectacle to watch him play I hope he’s here for as long as possible. His release clause is €100 million. Barcelona? It doesn’t worry me. It’s a good thing because it means the player’s status is high.”

Fekir could be a valuable addition to a Barcelona squad that has struggled for creativity throughout the 2021/22 season. His versatility could further make the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner an asset for the Blaugrana if they can prise him away from Real Betis in the summer transfer window.

But as Angel Haro said, Fekir has a €100 million release clause embedded in his contract with Real Betis. And amid their financial woes and desire to sign Erling Haaland, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will trigger the €100 million clause to snap up the Frenchman ahead of the 2022/23 season.
