Angel Di Maria has offered nasty comments to Manchester United and Louis van Gaal, blaming the Dutchman for his failure at Old Trafford.

In a recent interview with TyC Sports, Angel Di Maria was asked about his struggles at Manchester United, in the wake of the club’s recent acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Paris Saint-Germain attacker, though, has had nasty things to say about his former club and in particular, Louis van Gaal.

In what was effectively the start of Manchester United’s spending spree in the market since the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson, Di Maria was brought in from Real Madrid in 2014, for a then-record fee of £59.7 million. It was a massive coup for the Red Devils and given the enormity of the transfer, the attacker was immediately handed the prestigious number seven kit, previously worn by David Beckham and Ronaldo.

Unfortunately, the Argentine failed to live up to the expectations, scoring just three goals in 27 appearances in his one and only season at Old Trafford. He was later offloaded to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015, for a fee of €63 million, putting an end to his dismal spell in England.

Manchester Evening News has recently published excerpts from his interview with TyC sports, where Di Maria has hit out at the legacy of Man United’s number seven shirt.

“I didn’t give a f**k about the Manchester United No. 7,” Di Maria told TyC Sports“At first they talked to me a lot about it, it was just a shirt.”

The forward then went on to criticise his then coach Louis van Gaal, suggesting that the Dutchman had played a key role in his downfall at Old Trafford.

“My problem at Manchester was the coach. Van Gaal was the worst of my career. I would score, assist, and the next day he would show me my misplaced passes. He displaced me from one day to the other, he didn’t like players being more than him,” said Di Maria, who has managed to redeem himself in Paris, being involved in 200 goals in 289 competitive appearances.

The Argentine is also set to kickstart the new season alongside his compatriot Lionel Messi, as well as other attacking stars like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar for PSG as they look to dominate Europe after an excellent summer transfer window.

Van Gaal, on the other hand, has been reinstated as the Netherlands manager this summer after the Euro 2020 debacle under Frank de Boer. His team had recently played out a 1-1 draw with Norway, with Liverpool man Virgil van Dijk playing a key role.
