Andreas Christensen has opened up on the prospect of a potential contract renewal at Chelsea amid recent success.

In an interview with Ekstra Bladet, Andreas Christensen has offered a positive update over his potential contract at extension at Chelsea. The defender did not offer too many details but is confident that his time at Stamford Bridge can soon be extended.

A native of Denmark, Christensen has been a part of the Chelsea setup since 2012. But he had to prove himself on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach before being considered for the club’s first-team, although the defender was never really seen as a viable first-choice option.

That has changed under Thomas Tuchel, who has made Christensen a valuable asset to his defence, alongside Antonio Rudiger. The Dane’s role has improved, especially after the club missed out on the capture of Jules Kounde on deadline day, prompting Tuchel to put his faith in the current crop of options.

However, Christensen’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season, which has put his long-term future at Chelsea under doubt. But Goal has recently published excerpts of his interview with Ekstra Bladet, where the defender has sounded confident about a potential contract extension.

“I know a lot is being said right now. I can not say too much, but I think it looks good. We have won the Champions League and the Super Cup. I am very happy to be at this club and feel Chelsea are the right place to be in England,” he told Ekstra Bladet.

Christensen, who has featured in 131 competitive matches for Chelsea, has further stressed the importance of Tuchel’s trust. He also shed light on the difficult period under Frank Lampard but claims he was resilient and patient enough to overcome the problems.

“I know Thomas Tuchel believes in me. I have also played a big role since he came. I had a very difficult period under [Frank] Lampard, shortly before he was fired. Now luckily it’s going the right way for me. Things can go fast in this world. The most important thing is just that I have never given up,” added the Chelsea defender, who is currently on international duty with Denmark.
