On a memorable night at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United lifted the Europa League to seal their progress through to the Champions League.

Manchester United have endured a rather dodgy maiden campaign under Jose Mourinho. On Wednesday night, however, they ended it with their third trophy of the campaign.

The Europa League success added to their League Cup and Community Shield scalps this season and has re-affirmed the Portuguese’s knack for winning trophies. Summer signings Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan proved their worth in gold as their strikes took the Red Devils home.

Last night’s win also officially made Manchester United the most decorated club in English football with 42 trophies surpassing Liverpool’s tally of 41.

Many on social media, players, pundits and fans alike, dedicated the victory to the city of Manchester which was grieving from an attack on an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena were multiple fatalities and injuries were reported.

That was reason why there was an air of ecstasy and sadness about the celebrations among the Red Devils at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
