Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, claiming he is the best English goalkeeper on current form.

Speaking after his team’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed Aaron Ramsdale as the best goalkeeper in England.

Arsenal continued their brilliant recent run of form by picking up a comfortable 2-0 win over the Foxes at home on Sunday evening. Goals from Thomas Partey and Alexandre Lacazette ensured that the north London outfit bagged all three points.

While Ramsdale was not forced into action all that much on Sunday, the English shot-stopper produced one moment of sheer brilliance when he pulled off a sensational stop to deny Harvey Barnes’s header in the first half. Rodgers was left stunned when he saw the save from the sidelines and was full of praise for the Arsenal custodian after the game.

As quoted by Metro, the Northern Irishman said, “For me, he’s the best English keeper at the moment. I think he’s top. His progression since he came to Arsenal, he’s playing for a huge club, different expectation with how to play football, I think he’s dealt with that really well.”

“It looks like he’s come into the club here, he’s playing now with a calmness. We saw him earlier this season and he was jumping about, but now he’s got a really nice calmness to his game. He plays well with his feet, he makes saves, his save from Barnes looked in all the way, that was a great save and it kept Arsenal in front,” he added.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, too, was left impressed by Ramsdale, saying, “He made a great save with Harvey Barnes’s header in a crucial moment when we were 1-0 up. That’s when you need your goalkeeper to come out and get you out of trouble, and he certainly did it today.”

Ramsdale arrived at Arsenal last summer from Sheffield United. Many questions were raised over his acquisition by the north London club as they already had Bernd Leno as an option in goal. But the Englishman has done brilliantly since moving to the Emirates and could be in contention to be the starting goalkeeper for England in the FIFA World Cup later this year if he continues at this rate.
