Roberto Firmino is in contention to feature while Luis Diaz and Jordan Henderson should start when Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Liverpool will be aiming to move to the top of the Premier League standings when they lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday night. And, heading into the game, manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed a boost as Roberto Firmino is back in training after missing the last five matches due to a foot injury.
Providing an update on the Brazilian in his pre-match presser, Klopp said: “I don’t know, but he is back in training, so now we have to make a decision about that. The foot thing didn’t let him do a lot. We had to let it settle and now we have to make sure that he has a few proper sessions. Obviously, we have enough games still, so it’s very important that we have to make sure that we get him in the best possible shape.
“I didn’t make a decision but it might be possible, that it makes for him more sense just to train through the weekend and be then a big step closer for Tuesday, for example. But let’s see. Yesterday he was in training, was great.”
Liverpool could make a few changes to the lineup that took the field in midweek against Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League. One of the alterations could come in defence, where Joel Matip should replace Ibrahima Konate at the heart of the defence. He will partner Virgil van Dijk, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson continue as the full-backs. Alisson Becker is guaranteed to start in goal.
Moving into the middle of the park, Klopp could make a solitary change by reintroducing captain Jordan Henderson into the starting XI. The Liverpool skipper should take the place of Naby Keita, meaning Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara retain their spots in the lineup against Tottenham Hotspur.
As for the attacking personnel, Luis Diaz is certain to start for Liverpool after his stunning display from the bench against Villarreal on Tuesday night. The January signing should start in place of Diogo Jota, who has been a bit underwhelming in recent matches.
Firmino’s return adds more options at Klopp’s disposal. However, the Liverpool boss is unlikely to rush the Brazilian into action and might hold him back until next week’s game versus Aston Villa. As a result, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah should continue in the frontline when Tottenham visit Anfield.
Liverpool Predicted XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Diaz.
