Mikel Arteta has extended his stay at Arsenal by signing a new deal with the club, with Arsenal Women’s coach Jonas Eidevall also signing a new contract.

Arsenal have made an official statement to announce that Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract to extend his stay at the Emirates until the end of the 2024/25 season. At the same time, Arsenal Women’s head coach Jonas Eidevall has also penned a new deal with the north London club.

It seems to be the season of contract renewals for managers of some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp put pen to a new long-term deal last week, while Pep Guardiola is on the verge of renewing terms with Manchester City for the foreseeable future.

Before Guardiola signs his extension, his protege and former Manchester City assistant manager Mikel Arteta has extended his stay at Arsenal. Recent reports had claimed that Arsenal wanted to hand Arteta a bumper new contract after a reasonably successful 2020/21 campaign thus far.

While Arsenal will end the season without a trophy to show for their efforts, Arteta has overseen a pleasant transformation of the squad, with particular attention paid to lowering the average of the team. And while a top-four finish is not set in stone yet, the Gunners are the favourites to beat Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to the fourth spot on the Premier League table.

Recent reports suggested that Brazil head coach Tite could be Arteta’s replacement if the Spaniard did not renew terms with the north Londoners. But the Gunners quickly rubbished such claims, and Arteta has now signed a new contract that extends his stay at the Emirates until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Upon penning the deal, Arteta expressed his delight, saying, “I’m excited, grateful and really, really happy today. When I spoke to Josh he could see the club at the same point and he wanted to take the club the way I wanted to do it. So everything that he’s said, and that Stan has said when I’ve been together with both of them, they’ve always delivered.”

“We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams. In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League. We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level.”

In addition to Arteta, Arsenal Women’s head coach Jonas Eidevall has also signed a new contract with the north London club. It will be interesting to see if the Arteta revolution can continue at Arsenal in the next three years.
