Manchester United reportedly face potential mutiny from players in the dressing room amid contract talks with Paul Pogba.

According to Daily Mirror, Manchester United players have not been impressed by the club’s efforts to tie Paul Pogba down to a new contract. The midfielder’s current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, but United are willing to make one of the highest-paid players in the team by offering him a lucrative contract.

The report suggests the Red Devils are willing to fork out a £400,000-a-week salary package to Pogba. It would make him the second-highest-paid player in the camp, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who bags £450,000 per week. But the overall figure could reach up to the half a million mark due to add-ons, potentially making him the highest-paid player in the Manchester United camp.

This has led to fierce outrage among the Manchester United players, with a majority of them unhappy with the club’s willingness to offer Pogba such a lucrative salary. The dressing room is not convinced the midfielder deserves such a salary hike as he has barely played for the first team lately, and is not as crucial as some of the other players in the team, including Bruno Fernandes.

Paul Pogba has indeed had a torrid time at Manchester United since rejoining the club back in 2016. During his ongoing six-year spell at the club, the midfielder has received fierce criticism for failing to live up to the price tag. He has appeared largely inconsistent, while injuries have not been kind to him either.

The Frenchman has featured in a total of 231 competitive appearances so far. He has been involved in 90 goals during this period, but his overall performances have been quite underwhelming.

Manchester United’s desire to offer Pogba a hefty salary, therefore, is slightly surprising. But it appears the player is rated highly by the club, who are expecting a revolution under Erik Ten Hag, as the Dutchman looks set to replace Ralf Rangnick next season.

Committing to a contract extension for Pogba, though, could cause new problems for Manchester United, potentially leading to the exit of some key players including Ronaldo. The Portuguese international has been linked with a move for PSG lately after being left disappointed by Manchester United’s underwhelming performance.

Curiously, PSG are also in contention to sign Pogba next season, with Les Parisiens reportedly submitting a contract offer to the Frenchman recently.
